Are diseases as hard to diagnose as the show "House" make it seem?

sometimes it is very difficult to diagnose the problem. as for house; it is drama, and the head surgeon is a drug addict. that may play a part. still, i've seen a few people have problems that it takes forever to accurately diagnose.
