Is it ok to put cardboard recyclables in the 'newspaper' bin or 'container' bin?

I live in an apt complex and there is garbage dumpster, container marked 'containers' and a container marked 'newspapers'. Where do I put cardboard? The office had no conclusive answer on which one to put them in. I have been putting cardboard in the 'container' bin because I think one time I saw it in there before. What do you think? Also, where should I put papers (not newspapers)?
