Surround system? PLEASE HELP?

So im looking into setting up a gaming room but im getting really confused about surround sound system ive been trying to find info on the web but there's nothing conclusive i keep reading stuff about subwoofer's and stuff like that so can so please help me out and explain exactly what i need for a decent surround sound system its only really gonna be used for playing xbox if that makes any difference. thanks for any help
